We are starting a new event in Alurel!
As many of you know, I've been a story teller in Alurel for more tan 4 years, though I've mostly retired since Alurel Family acquired a new home in Alurel itself :). At one point in time I read all over sl, my own works and the works of others, full novels, short stories and poetry, in guest spots and weekly events. Since then I've been mostly reading at our festivals and occasionally at literary venues I've been asked to appear in :).

Recently, however, some of the longer standing family have expressed a wish for me to start reading again and I have spent a long time giving it serious consideration. With our current empty plots, we are lacking funds to have our usual events for some time now. And to be honest....I sort of miss the readings too!

I would like to announce the beginning of Alurel's Fireside Tales (once called Aianna's Fireside Tales, but this seemed far more appropriate as I am no longer reading all over SL). Alurel's Fireside Tales will consist of short, fantasy stories read live over a stream by me twice a week. The stories may be written by me or (most likely) by some other author.

The reason I am reading twice a week instead of once a week is to try to accommodate more than one time zone. One day will be geared toward European times and the other toward American. Readings are generally an hour long, though some short stories CAN carry us past an hour. If the short story is going to be far too long then I will split it up into two readings...which means you'll just have to come back the next week to hear the rest :)).

 Days and Times:
Tuesdays starting at 1 pm slt
Fridays starting at 5 pm slt

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Alurel/187/168/24

I'm starting the readings with the book "Dreams Underfoot," a collection of short stories written by one of my favorite authors, Charles de Lint. This series of stories are all urban fantasy. They are all set in a city called Newford, which was written to be seen as any city in the world, only if you look closely, there's magic everywhere! Faeries, elves, goblins, all things magical, light and dark, beautiful and ugly, fly, lurk and wander about under our noses if only we know how to look. That is the magic Charles de Lint creates in his tales and these are the tales we shall start with!

The first story I will be reading from "Dreams Underfoot" is called "Uncle Dobbin's Parrot Fair" and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

So I will see you in Alurel Village on November 29th at 1 pm slt and again on December 2nd at 5pm slt for "Uncle Dobbin's Parrot Fair!"

Love and Light,
Lady Aiánna Ferúviál
Queen of Alurel

The current recession has be making it hard for everyone to afford the little extras particularly with companies raising or at least not lowering the prices they charge. With that in mind Lady Aianna has custom built a beautiful elven aboreal village! With much lower rental cost than a full plot these absolutly lovely tree houses would make a great home for those who love Alurel but can't afford the land prices.

Each aboreal house has its own teleport, a generous amount of prims and a lovely view. We are excited to be able to welcome more people into the Alurel Family with these affordable homes.

Details:
 L$ 200 a week, 100 prims but only 18 avalable.

Come by and take a look we would love to welcome you home!

The Bloom of the Year ~ Festival Beltain
(All events are at the above land mark unless otherwise specified)

Schedule of Events:

Saturday, April 30, 2011:
12pm - 1:30pm - Drum

DRUM's goal is to bring the world to you via the power of drumming. Our aim is to have fun and to create incredible, beautiful rhythms - live.

Right now our performances consists of 6 different drum cultures, Taiko (Japanese), Native American, African, Latin, Indian and a very special set of Rusty Drums. We are planning many new exciting sets for the near future!

Members of the DRUM group have collaborated to create the unique sounds, drums, and animations that enable us to perform. Our performances are live and are subtly different each time - they are not pre-recorded music. The sounds are created right within Second Life. We then send them out and back in via stream in order to provide you with a lag free experience! We hope you enjoy our performances as much as we enjoy providing them.

Brigitte Kungler - Director/Drummer
Kell Babenco - Drummer
Ladyslipper Constantine - Drummer
Lorin Tone - Drummer
DMom2K Darwin - Drummer/Equipment
aterebor Zenovka - Drummer/Sound Stream
Yagin Fallen - Sound Stream

1:30pm - 3pm - Albannach
Albannach is an exciting , wild, tribal type group of Street Performers in Scotland.  Virtual Albannach was established in June 2009

3pm - 2pm - Caoilte Savage
Caoilte Skytower (pronounced "Queel-chah") is Irish, Scottish, English and American Folk/Rock, all tied together with his incredible voice and skills on guitar!  He has been involved in music for 35 years, performing folk and rock music in RL pubs and cafe's since he was 21. Cao has been active in various reniassance and folk festivals over the years, as well as other events. His voice is relaxing, as described by his fans. This opinion makes him feel honored, as he stated, "The songs I sing mean a lot to me, and it comes across in my delivery."  Cao finds it important to truly connect with his audience, making them laugh at his humorous songs, clap along with the drinking songs, sing along with the classics, and even cry at the sad ones.

4pm - 5pm - Pete Mroz
Pete Mroz is a traveler, your new best friend, the charming ice breaker, and the proverbial “life of the party.” Always the fearless ring leader, he catches you off guard with his “don’t I know you” sly grin and playful sense of humor. He’s harmless and fun till he whips out his guitar and opens his mouth to sing- then you are captivated- Who is this guy? You really don’t see it coming- the guitar tone, the clarity, the sparse, melodic, hook laden riffs that incorporate heartfelt soul and blues. Then there’s that voice- angelic is a word that comes to mind- his voice soars through the air like a warm ribbon of light- effortless and spot on. Call it a command of his instruments, call it charisma, call it an anointing- it’s as if he’s flying and it sounds like freedom to me. It is that freedom that quietens a room and draws the audience into his world.

5pm - 6pm - Heath Elvehjem (Heath Vercher): musician, composer

Heath began his musical career prior to his teens where his experiments with music creation led him to the discovery of what would be a driving force in his life. It was not until he was around 16 that he gave his first public performance. These first steps were of course not pleasant but Heath kept working and in the not too many years since has turned these beginnings into a blossoming career.
During his formative years, Heath gained some influences from some great performers, notably Jim Brickman, Yanni, David Lanz, Billy Joel, Marc Cohen, and Bruce Hornsby. Though some of Heath's playing style could be attributed to these influences, his style is a combination of New Age and Contemporary musical genres that stands on its own.

6pm - 7pm - Christopher135 Quan
As a member of the West Coast Songwriters Association, Christopher has been involved with music and performing for nearly 30 years.

Christopher's songwriting includes a range of genres from heart-felt originals to jammin' blues to praise & worship. And of course, Chris enjoys playing his favorite covers.  Either way, Chris reaches down deep into his soul to deliver a soulful perfomance, kissed with ambient keys .... that which emerges... captivates one's heart...

Sunday, May 1, 2011:
7am - 9am - A Return to the Old Ways - Stories by Aianna Oh
This event is held at The Story Pavilion on the Loxingly Estates: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Alurel/214/223/24

What do we mean by old ways? Well, a long time ago, story tellers would pluck a story out of the air and tell it to their listeners around the fire. This is how all of Aianna Oh's short stories have been written. This story telling is not done in voice but in local chat. While she can read a written tale aloud, making one up in voice is another matter. But typing one out is much easier...it's harder to stutter when typing :). Aianna may designate one or two trusted friends to copy and paste all she types to be cleaned up later and added to her collection of short stories in case she crashes before she's finished.
Aianna Oh has been telling stories since childhood. She began putting them down on paper by the age of 12, poetry by the age of 8. She wrote her first novel in conjunction with her father at age 15, which turned into a series of 6 books and a 7th offshoot. At the time it was said that "she had the imagination while the old man had the grammer she lacked." Now all grown up and able to express herself with her own words she writes her poetry and short stories as the whim strikes her and is currently starting a new series of novels on her own.

9am - 10am - Radegund Bracken, poet, singer, storyteller
This event is held at The Story Pavilion on the Loxingly Estates: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Alurel/214/223/24

Radegund is a writer, a singer, a storyteller, a runereader, and a mystic-in-training, with influences ranging from deep mythology and folklore, to high literature and zoology, to Looney Tunes and Muppets.  She has been writing since before she could write, often dictating to a handy grown-up to fill in the words on the pictures she'd drawn.  A graduate of Carleton University in Ottawa, she has published several small chapbooks through her small Whimsivore Press (after which her SL group is named), and has been a featured poetry reader on several stages in Toronto.  Her readings are filled with rhyme and song, with lots of laughs and a generous helping of out-and-out wonder.

10am - 12pm - Maypole Dance with DJ Lucien Brentano

This event is held in The Faerie's Garden: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Alurel/175/199/24

Join us for a two hour frolic around the Maypole as DJ Lucien spins a vibrant, joyful Mayday mix! Dance among the flowers and fae and just have fun as we celebrate Spring, the joy, the love, and the......fertility ;) of the season!
One of Caledon's most popular DJs, Lucien's been bringing the BEWM to the airwaves since 2009. He's played some of the biggest shows in the Steamlands and helped found KBWM Radio - a combination Internet radio station and DJ coalition. His music library spans eras, genres, continents and cultures. While he specializes in the emerging steampunk genre, he's comfortable and well versed in many other styles.

The Alurel One Year Anniversary Spring Ball:
YES Alurel the sim is now one year old! Amazing as it seems we've been here that long. Though Alurel as a family has been around much longer than that, we've decided that this is still an event worth celebrating, and as it falls right next to Beltaine itself, we've combined the two celebrations! Join us for this two hour FORMAL celebration of Beltaine and the Birth of Alurel sim!

12pm - 1pm - Maximillion Kleene

If music feeds the soul, Maximillion Kleene is the food of the gods. His dynamic musical range and smooth groove provide many a listener with a virtual buffet of auditory temptations. Max started his music career with formal study of piano at the Royal Conservatory but quickly realized that it was the guitar guys who got the chicks. By 19, he was seriously immersed to the very center of his musical soul in AC/DC and from there branched out to experiment with sounds that range from Pearl Jam to Foo Fighters  to Jason Mraz. Max brings high energy and a vast repertoire of quirky, classic, and current covers to Second Life. Oozing charisma and charm, he provides his fans with an hour of musical magic.

1pm - 2pm - Allister Westland
Allister Westland is a well established and popular musician in SL who's performances get rave reviews. His shows consist of a mix of classic rock and modern popular rock cover tunes as well as a collection of original material that showcases his musical diversity and abilities. You will hear anything from soft acoustic ballads in their purest form with only his acoustic guitar and his rich soulful vocals, to hard driving heavy rock tunes with the full production sound  of his self performed and pre-recorded backing tracks.  Allister sings live and combines both acoustic guitar and electric guitar in his performances and with the advances in technology  available to him in the studio from which he performs from, will sometimes layer live keyboard and drum parts to his songs.  His unique musical style  is influenced by everyone from Van Halen and Joe Satriani to  Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and other classic rock favorites.

We are very proud to announce another new addition to Alurel! We have a new Residential Sim to the north of Alurel and the plots are already filling up.

Wymberel is just as lovely as Alurel adding to the grounds to explore and enjoy. Just as with Alurel a lot of thought and car has gone into its planing and decoration and you will find delightful details and little hidden places and fun things.

On of the main attractions of Wymberel is the labyrinth in its center. Though its a small and not too complicated hedgemaze it is delightful and ment to be explored slowly and with a friend or lover. Full of little hidden spots and suprises in all its turns please do take the time to enjoy it and all of the land we have.

There are many delightful houses here as a reminder, all homes that do not have a sign by there door are privately owned and while there grounds are free to explore we ask that you do not enter the home uninvited. However if the sign is present please feel free to go in and look around.

Because we make an effort to be a home for all people we are also making both regons more micro friendly. You will find mushroom and other seats and things sprouting up with micro poses and other wonderful toys for them as we can find and add them.

Please come by and explore and enjoy. You might just find a home in our forest among the fae.

If you happen to have a boat I would recomend bring it by if not I have one you can borrow. It will be of use for you in the Alurian Sea that we have off our Eastern coast surrounding Endelmor Isle.

the Island is a nice quite place with an Elven boat house and volcano. The perfect place for a romantic picnic on the beach or a leasurly strole.

While all our waterways are kept open for boat and swiming traffic none offer the space and freedom of the sea. come spend some time sailing and exploring. You may want to grab your fins and merforms, as there are things to find and see under the waves as well as above them.

Endelmor is one of the few totally public places in Alurel and there is no land for sale here. So come on by and enjoy it!

We had such a great time with our Festival and I want to say thank you to all the performers, photographers, and general visiters and participants that made it great! And a super huge thanks to Lady Aianna Oh herself who made it all possible with her hard work! If you had a particular event you enjoyed and would like to see again either at future festivals or just generally on sim Please let us know in a comment or let me, Cali Ciaco, know in world. We would love to continue to have events for our friends and family thought the year not just at our festivals and your feed back can help us in planing those as well as in making our next festival even better.

If you or your friends took any pictures of the festival please e-mail them to Alurel.kingdom@gmail.com or send them in world to Cali Ciaco so that we can share them here on the blog.

We would also love to start publishing poems, short stories, or real in world stories about your experiances in Alurel. If you are interested in sharing some of your work here please send it through e-mail or in a note card just as you would the pictures.

As autumn progresses you will start to see bare trees and browning leaves, which we will begin to clear away in preparation for winter. We hope you continue to enjoy the our forest as the chill gets deeper.

Emmaline Pizzaro

We have a new fea on our shores and are very glad for it. Welcome to Alurel and to the family Emmaline. Love, Light and Blessings to you!

I'm rediculous excited about this. Its my favorate time of year, plus Lady Aianna and I have something in the works for you all. Just a reminder that today starts our Fall Photo Contest. Which I am also excited about. I can't wait to see some of the great pictures we get back from this. If you missed the first posting about this you can find it here.

Also do take note Lady Aianna will be changing the trees to fall colors 1-4 trees at a time each day on each parcel according to the size of the parcel and you have a full month to get your submissions in. So if you wish to wait until there are more fall colors about before you take your shots, that might be a wise idea.

Why not enjoy the new colors with a boat ride? Head over to the boat dock grab a little cruizer and enjoy a ride around our waterways. The rivers through to the lake in the middle are kept clear for boat traffic, so use it and enjoy! TP for boat dock here.

Merry Autumn all!

On September 23 at 7 pm SLT, Heath Elvehjem, aka Heath Vercher, will be playing at the Alurel Performance Pavilion.

I have been very proud to call Heath Vercher a good friend of mine for a long time. In my experience He is one of the best new age piano composers I have had the pleasure of listening to both in rl and in sl.
You can hear a sampling of his music and buy his CDs at:

In his own words:
"Heartspark Music was founded on the principle that good music drives people’s lives. The project found its way into existence.

In 2006, when Heath Vercher’s first solo piano release, “Patch Work,” was released, he anticipated the eventual need to create an umbrella under which to release his original work, and with that, Heartspark Music was created.
Since the creation of the label, there have been five original music projects released, and a Christmas album in the winter of 2007. The music is from a combination of influences, including artists such as Yanni and Jim Brickman, coupled with the piano stylings of artists such as Billy Joel, Bruce Hornsby, and Marc Cohn.

Music is meant to move people, and we hope that the music you find here at Heartspark Music will do just that. We invite you to listen, explore, and discover music that will touch you, inspire you, and move you to a higher place. Yours in Music, as in Life."

Alurel is very pleased he could play here at long long last. Welcome Heath!

When the concert is finished, feel free to wander around Alurel and see the sights. There are many parcels available for residency, but even if you just want to walk through the beauty of a our fantasy realm you are most welcome to. Any house that has an Alurel Information sign in front of it is empty and can be walked through. All other homes are lived in and may not be entered. All of the grounds are free to be explored. There is even a strange plant on the south side of the lake that when clicked, will rez a leaf that will carry you to the central Isle of Dreams (be sure to head the plant's warning and turn your world to midnight if it is not already dark before you reach the isle or the dreams may blind you).

Above all we wish you to come and dance and be merry. Dance to Heath's beautiful music then stroll through a fantasy land designed for your pleasure!

Love and Light,
Aianna Oh
Lady of Alurel

Fall is coming to Alurel!

The first day of autumn is September 22. Keep your eyes peeled around Alurel, for the trees will begin to slowly take on their autumn finery. All of you fae tend your flowers carefully so that they last through the turning of the coming seasons!

Love and Light
Aianna Oh
Lady of Alurel

It is our sincerest hope that you enjoy our forest as the weather begins to cool and the breeze starts to pick up. Dress warmly, enjoy the leaves, and maybe spend an autumn evening by the fire or enjoying a cup of tea at The Tree Cozy.

The Tree Cozy was host to its first live event. Caoilte was scheduled to play at 1pm but had some problems with his connection and as a result we were treated to the music of Mercury Madzuko and one song from Saintess Larnia herself until Caoilte was able to get on and set up. All of the performers were wonderful and diverse. Those in attendance, and there were quite a few, were treated to Lady Gaga acoustical mash up and traditional Irish folk.

Mercury, who came as a last minute stand in when Caoilte had trouble getting on, is a Alternative Acoustic Singer/Songwriter. Influenced by artists as varied as Jethro Tull, David Bowie, and The Cure he brought a comedic approach to his music. If you enjoy an open and playful performance with a tongue in cheek approach to music then you will really enjoy his work. You can see more about him and his upcoming shows on the web here. I am looking forward to hearing him play at The Tree Cozy again.

Caoilte did make it and had a wonderful show despite being a little late. If you like Irish Folk then you need to attend one of his performances. This is a man cloaked in Irish musical heritage and he wears it well. His mother, Irish by birth, was a pianist.... she was very good. Her brother, was choir director in Belfast for the 2nd largest Catholic Church. His Dad was a hillbilly cowboy from Missouri, a singer and guitarist. He’s parents met in Newcastle at a dance during WWII. Caoilte grew up in the Irish musical tradition performing from the age of 9 at Highland games and then later in life moving to perform at his local renaissance festival and in December of last year began to play in Second Life as well. His name (pronounced KOOL tcha) is the name of an old Irish hero who was a warrior and a poet. He is also known for his speed as a runner and as the legends go lived to 400 years old so that he could meet St. Patrick.

His music was wonderful it hit the heart of what Irish music is touching on the story pieces and the love songs, the poignant and the laugh out loud funny pub songs, as well as old songs and some newer ones. And each was wonderfully done. I am very much looking forward to his next performance.

I am sure I speak for all who came when I say that both were wonderful and enjoyable and much fun was had by all.

Event: Caoilte Skytower; performing Irish Folk, 9/14/10 1pm SL time at The Tree Cozy (Landmark here)

Alurel is happy to Welcome Saintess Larnia and her Tavern The Tree Cozy to our sim. As the name implies The Tree Cozy is a beautiful and comfortable place. Think Elven, meets coffee shop, meets tea room. The setting is perfect for a relaxing afternoon listening to acoustic music or just chatting with some friends.

Saintess has made the best possible use of the space with full landscaping, roof top seating and even an extra gazebo for when the white washed deck gets a little to full of dancers. She has also taken full advantage of the lovely view the location affords and the place is simple wonderful to be in.
Just a lovely as the setting is the owner herself. In the time I spoke to her for this interview I was made to feel very welcomed and we got along as though we had know each other much longer than the few moments before hand when I asked if I could talk to her about a blog spot.
She is a British singer musician. Citing Pink Floyd, U2, Cream Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Eva Cassidy, Lenny Kravitz, Foo Fighters, Clapton Crowded House, Serena Ryder, Florence and the Machine, K T Tunstall, and Guns N Roses in her influences she says she hopes to hold live musical performances of both her own music and friends in the tavern though keeping the styles more suited to the feel leaning toward acoustic and beautiful sounds.

She is available to play elsewhere though and suggests you contact Lingual Markus or Jenna Dirval for booking. (Her Calender can be found here)

She was drawn to Alurel because she wanted a quiet and friendly place, a relaxing place to live and invite friends.
She is kicking of the music at The Tree Cozy with the Irish Folk music of Caoilte Skytower.
He will be performing at 1pm SL time on the 14th day of September, 2010. You are invited to come and enjoy the music.

Welcome to Alurel and to the family! Love, Light and Blessings to you!

For this tutorial I am using the emerald viewer which is still modeled after the old sl viewer. Some of the pictures maybe harder to see you can click on any of them to see a larger image. The first picture shows the bottom left of the screen. You can't see my mouse, but it is hovering over the "communicate" button, thus you see the hovering tip in white.
Click that "communicate" button and open this window, which is currently open on local chat. What you see now is the hover tip that shows that the mouse is hover over the "Contacts" tab in the lower left corner of the communication window.
Click the "Contacts" tab. This will show your friends list. In the screenshot below you will see three tabs at the top. Only two you need to concern yourself with, the third tab is something that is associated only with the Emerald viewer. You will notice that the middle tab, "Groups" is lighter than the rest (or highlighted). That is because my mouse is over it and there is another hovering tips near it.

Now click the "Groups" tab. Now you see your groups list. The word "none" is in bold because I have no group activated right now. I have left clicked the Alurel Family group to highlight it and am hovering my mouse over the "Activate" button on the right of the communication window.
Click the "Activate" button. You will now have a tag above your name in world associated with the Alurel Family group. If you wish to rez items in public land in Alurel you must have this group activated. This does not, of course, hold true for your own parcel of land in Alurel. I am hovering my mouse over the "Info" button.
Click the "Info" button. It will open the Alurel Family group information window. The window opens automatically on the general tab. Here you can read the group charter and see full list of names of who is in the group and when they were last online, among other things. I am hovering my mouse over the "Members and Roles" tab.
Clicked the "Members and Roles" tab. You will now see three new tabs. "Members", "Roles", and "Abilities." I am hovering my mouse over the "Roles" tab.
Click the "Roles" tab. Here you will see all ten available roles. They are listed alphabetically. Beside them is the title of the role. It's that title that you will see above your name. Such as, beside the "Owner" role you will see ⁂Lady of Alurel⁂. It is ⁂Lady of Alurel⁂ that will show above my name when I have that role activated. Look at the whole page. You will also see a description of what each role is for, which will make it easier to see if you fit in that role. Remember, a lot of people change what they are often, so it's ok to change your role often. Everyone is in all of the roles except for the officer and owner roles.
Notice that I am hovering my mouse over the "General" tab at the top left of the window...we're not done yet.
I have clicked the "General" tab and am now back on that very first page that opened when i first opened the group information page. This is the page where you change which role/title you wear. Beneath the list of names of people in the group, on the lower right of the screen, is some writing that says "My Active Title". There is a drop list there. Click that arrow, as you can see I have done, and you will see 8 titles that you can choose from. Once you are done choosing your title, simply click the ok button at the bottom of the group info window and you are done. You can change your title to reflect whatever you choose to be on any given day, so have fun with it! :))
